I saw Esme Bridie open for my brother Miles at the wonderful Greystones in Sheffield in 2018. I liked what she was doing and Miles said she’d been asking him really interesting questions about songwriting and the business all afternoon. I bought this album from her website when we got home (after a day touring the hostelries of Sheffield and an evening in the Greystones I was in no state to be carting anything as delicate as a record around with me).

If you need a touch point think Joni Mitchell, Suzanne Vega and Tori Amos. She writes really good songs set in a very simple acoustic guitar, hint of electric guitar, bas and drums line up. Give Esme a listen, it’s always good to try something new.
